Key West Fire spokeswoman Alyson Crean said a fire broke out in a small building between the restaurant and the historic San Carlos Institute and theater on Duval Street around 10:00 p.m. Firefighters evacuated the restaurant and the nearby guest houses as they worked to control the flames which had completely engulfed the building where the fire broke out. Within two hours fire crews from the Key West Fire Department, the Key West International Airport and from Key West’s Naval Air Station had the fire out. They say the three businesses located in the burned out structure were a complete loss; a crepe shop, an art gallery and a sign shop. Both the Jimmy Buffett owned Margaritaville restaurant and the San Carlos Institute and theater suffered smoke damage, according to Crean.
